Casablanca Sidi Moumen
These girls are part of the football(soccer) program formed in 2006 by a youth center in a very poor neighborhood in Casablanca called Sidi Moumen. They practice once a week and play local teams. They are between the ages of 7 and 14 and are split up into two teams. They love playing soccer because it makes them feel important and they all want to play offense all of the time.
The youth center helps the neighborhood children stay in school, fight drugs and learn new languages etc. Their sports program includes lacross, field hockey, basketball and soccer.
Partnering with White Lightning
The Sidi Moumen team is partnering through the International Youth Sports Connection with the Bainbridge Island (WA) White Lightning girls team.
“We live on Bainbridge Island, which is a 30 minute ferry ride from downtown Seattle, in Washington State. We are in the top left hand corner of America, quite close to the Canadian Border. It never gets too cold here, even though we get a lot of rain in the winter. The summers are lovely being close to the water, and often we will see Orca Whales from the ferry boat !“
